Kidney stones – understanding more about the disorder

Sometimes, some hard deposits start to build up inside of our kidneys made up of minerals and salts which are called as kidney stones. They are very hazardous as they block our urinary tract, from the kidneys to the bladder and can affect any of the parts as well. Stones are formed when you find that the urine is concentrated enough and it allows the minerals inside the urine to crystallize into a deposit shape, therefore, forming a kidney stone.

Recognizing the presence of a kidney stone inside your body is very important. If they are found within time, they can provide no harm and therefore can be removed before they start to be a serious harm inside your body. Pain medications are taken, and by drinking an adequate amount of water, they are removed while passing out urine.

  • Rigorous pain in the side, back and below the ribs
  • Pain radiating towards lower abdomen
  • Intense and in waves pain

  • Abnormal amounts of urine – either too much or just small amounts

Causes of kidney stones

No definite causes for kidney stones have been documented although, some factors can increase your risk of having them. When more of the crystal forming elements are present in your urine, such as oxalate, uric acid or calcium, they end up forming kidney stones. As similar to this, there may be times when there will be a lack of elements that prevent the crystals from sticking to each other providing an ideal environment for the body to form kidney stones.

As a final word, kidney stones once formed can be removed through various ways. In most cases, they are removed using the normal urinary tract by supplying adequate medications and ample intake of fluids. And if they pass through their own, a procedure called lithotripsy is done in which larger stones are broken down into smaller segments using shock waves, and they naturally pass out using the urinary system.
